Andromeda Spaceways Inflight Magazine Issue #76 is live now at their website. It contains my story “The Galactic Internet” as well as many other great tales.
ASIM is a fun magazine (“Australia’s Pulpiest SF Magazine” according to the editors) that often publishes Science Fiction and Fantasy humor, and my story fits right in on that count. This was the very first story I ever submitted to ASIM, so right now I’m batting 1,000. I have a second story sitting in their slushpile now, so we’ll see how my average looks a few weeks from now 😉
Publication Timeline
This particular story’s timeline was:
- July 1: Submitted to ASIM
- July 20: Notification of “second round,” meaning the story was green lighted to be picked up for an issue, however some ASIM editor had to select it within three months, which only has a 5% chance statistically.
- September 20: Story accepted for issue #76 (82 days from submission to acceptance)
- October 14: Issue #76 released
This story was originally written in January 2019. It had previously made it to second round at Daily Science Fiction but was ultimately declined, but with a nice personal note. It was later also declined at Stupefying Stories before I submitted it to ASIM.
Proof Those Contributor Copies!
One minor snag: I received my contributor copy over the weekend and was perturbed to find that the entire first scene of the story was missing. This made it pretty hard to understand what was going on, as you might imagine. (This is a flash story and that first scene was 200 of the 1,000 words!)
I contacted Michelle Birkette; she investigated and found it was a production error. They fixed it up and sent out new contributor copies, and were very apologetic. I was pleased at the highly professional response and quick action.
Anyway, no harm done and kudos to the staff over at ASIM!
